This would be the first time I can give each student their very own copy of a book that is of high interest that they can take home, make notes in and read in a quiet comfortable space. The goal is to do a whole class novel by reading the whole book first. No stopping for lessons. Just read for pleasure. Then we would come back as a community, as this build community, being able to discuss the same text without the influence of anyone else, to discuss what they got out of the text. There will be analysis AFTER everyone reads but having their own book gives them ownership. Also, all classes would communicate about the same novel; through discussion boards monitored by me. Never have I been able to build community through all my classes. They are all so different from the next simply because I can’t supply each student with a book of their own. Again, the goal is to teach them reading isn't a chore, but so enjoyable when given the chance to get lost in the book without constant disruption.
