I am requesting diverse books for our classroom library. The books I've requested were selected in an effort to diversify my classroom library for my students. As a first year teacher, I haven't had the opportunity and time needed to build a library that will engage a wide range of learners. Therefore, I have deliberately selected texts that will be accessible for developing as well as emerging readers.
These texts are representative of a wide range of races, ethnicities, and culturally relevant topics that will engage and motivate my students to read. In fourth grade, my students will be exposed to these texts during Reading Workshop time. Students will have the chance to read independently as well as with peers on our classroom rug and at their tables.
