The requested shoulder rest pouches will be important for helping students keep their assigned shoulder rests in a secure location. Most of the violin cases are not large enough to accomodate the storage of these shoulder rests, so the students will clip these pouches onto the handle of their instrument cases to keep them organized. Because of Covid-19 protocols, students may not share supplies such as these shoulder rests, so storing them in this fashion will help to ensure that they are the only ones using their assigned equipment.
It is important for students to have the correct equipment in order to learn how to play their instruments properly. Without adequate support on their shoulders, students have a hard time holding up their violins, prohibiting the development of proper technique. A good shoulder rest allows the student to hold the instrument so that their left hand can be placed properly, thus permitting the development of more advanced techniques such as vibrato and playing in higher positions.
