My hope is to acquire hands-on, fun, and tactile phonics materials (such as letter tiles, phonics stamps, segmenting and blending centers and games, etc.) that engage my first graders as they practice challenging phonics and phonemic awareness skills. The students will use these materials in intervention lessons with myself, in small group settings, and in collaboration with peers during center time.
Through my ten years of teaching first grade I have learned that the most meaningful and powerful learning takes place when students are engaged and participating in a hands-on and multi-sensory way.
Helping students become successful and happy readers is one of my highest priorities and it starts with the fundamental realms of phonemic awareness and phonics. Additional hands-on phonics materials will increase reading intervention and engagement and the trickle-down effect will maximize my students' reading skills and love for reading!
