It is my goal as a teacher to create a positive and encouraging space for my students. The items that are listed are sensory items that will be used alongside explicit instruction for social emotional learning. Each item will be placed into a Calming Corner which will allow the students in my classroom to learn how to recognize, regulate and manage their emotions. The sensory items will be available for the each student to choose what they need in that moment in order to ground themselves and prepare their bodies and minds to rejoin the class.
The printer will be used to print items for the calming corner which will guide students in recognizing their own emotions as well as providing them with examples of calming strategies that they can use. The sensory items such as the figit spinners, pop its, silly putty, playdough etc. will provide the students with tactile activities to help calm their bodies and mind. The books listed will also be placed in the calming corner to support the concepts taught during social emotional instruction time.
