Students will be working on a project called “The1619 Project”. They will use resources, such as books, newspapers, and articles to research the history of the Triangular Slave Trade, as well as current cultural events.
My scholars will learn how the first slaves arrived to the Americas, and made their mark. They will make connections from past slavery to modern day slavery. During this time I will teach them how important the African culture was to building this country, as well as educating them that we were and more than just slaves, we started as kings and queens of humanity.
It is necessary for all students to maintain all materials for the curriculum and project, because they will be developing a Social Studies project for the school district based on this 1619 curriculum.
