I feel like the items chosen will help create a clean and organized learning environment for students from 5 years of age to 12 years of age. I would like to label and store all of the manipulatives requested, using the various sizes of address labels, in the cube shelving unit on my list. I would also use the organizer to hold student records in my small group area. I also would use the file folders to create individual student portfolios for housing progress notes, etc inside. The various manipulatives I have in my list would be used for the hands-on activities in my small groups to better teach concepts. These include the math cubes, Mental Blox, ten frames, and Base 10 Blocks. The carpet sweeper will be used to clean my carpet in the small group area after each grade level to stay clean and tidy for the next group.
Math is a complex and sometimes frustrating subject to learn and even like in school. My goal is to ensure that my students are not only learning the math concepts linear to their grade-level expectations but to also make sure that they know math can be fun, too. I want to have things in reach to incorporate hands-on learning as well as abstract ideas and thoughts.
Math is such an integral part of life no matter what age or setting you find yourself in. I want to instill the knowledge as well as the excitement of using and understanding math with fluency and accuracy. Having these items on hand and setting up a workable classroom will impact student's interest as well as their success rates on daily math as well as the STAAR test!
