Research shows that the more students read, the more their cognitive and linguistic skills develop. It also helps them retain larger amounts of information for longer periods of time. Furthermore, when learning a second language it helps students develop a better understanding of the language that they are learning thus increasing second language acquisition over time.
Building a classroom library is of utmost importance to support the second language acquisition of my students; therefore the books that have been selected were done so with students at different reading and language levels in mind. Students in my Spanish classes will be able to select books of interest from the classroom library with the ultimate goal of being able to choose from a wide variety of readers and other literature that further engages them in the language learning process through fun and relevant stories.
