The art works by famous masters already have a home in our school. At our front entrance we already have a large display of children's art that is done daily throughout our school. I am going to add a "masters corner" to that art area. I have an art easel where I will display the art once it arrives at our school. As a school we will focus on one master each month. Teachers and students will learn about the master artist, read his or her biography, and then recreate a work by that artist. We will then display our various projects on bulletin boards around the school. Each month students will be able to take a "field trip around the school", to see a variety of works by the artist that they have been studying. Then, as they arrive and depart the school each day they will be able to see a real work by the artist they are studying in class.
The donations to this project will give our students a tangible example of a master artists work. The works that I have selected include visual arts, dance, music and drama. My goal is to broaden the awareness and increase the appreciation of the fine arts to the students in our school. It is my belief that this is essential to learning, now as elementary students and well into their futures.
