Many of my students are below the poverty line, therefore simply purchasing a pen, pencil or paper/a notebook is a struggle. Only when the student becomes employed are they able to provide for themselves, yet at that age they see the little money they earn while working to be a windfall and choose work instead of school. I would like to reach my students as soon as they are enrolled (grade 9) so that they do not choose work over school and visualize how far being educated can take them.
