There will be a strong literacy connection tied into the activities. For example, I will read the story of the Three Little Pigs, and in groups students will choose a STEM Bin and build the three houses using the materials in the Bins. I will take pictures of all finished work and create a binder to display for parents, visitors, and the students. I will incorporate writing by having students compare the materials used by different students.
The home-school connection is very critical. One student per week will be allowed to check out a STEM container of their choice. They will work with parents to create what the students chooses. Ex. house, car, or robot. The parents will take a picture with their child and submit to me. All pictures will go in the You Name It, I Build It Binder.
