The courtyard at our school was designed to represent several different types of ecosystems. It includes a forest area with deciduous trees, a marsh area, pond, grasslands and mountain area. Students have the ability to use the courtyard for lessons in all subject areas. A booklet has been created to provide teachers with lesson ideas incorporating the courtyard.
Our students also have difficult lives at home. The courtyard is a way for students to relax and enjoy nature.
Currently there is only a small seating area accomodating about 15 students. We would love to have picnic tables in the courtyard for students to learn and enjoy.
