Frustrated and emotional children will walk into my room and immediately find comfort and solace in the soft lift emitting from the aquarium while subconsciously listening to the gentle hum of the filter pump. When the children begin to focus on the fish as they swim around the aquarium and in-between the swaying live plants, hopefully their strong emotions will lessen. The aquarium will provide the important non-verbal words (you are safe) the children need to 'hear' and feel in order to work through their emotions. As the children gain control of their behavior, the manipulatives I chose will encourage social/emotional language allowing for conversations and trust building.
