I have the opportunity to serve a dual language school as a second grade teacher at Edinburg CISD, near the border of Texas and Mexico. The students at my school are economically disadvantaged and therefore don’t have the opportunities to purchase their own school supplies. I have purchased a lot of material out of pocket such as bilingual books, bilingual labels, shelves, colors, etc. My goal is to ensure that the students feel welcomed this school year and excited when they walk into their classroom. This is their safe place. Sometimes the only motivation they receive comes from our classrooms. With your help I will be able to purchase book sets in both English and Spanish for my bilingual classroom. I will also purchase bilingual supplemental materials, lesson plans, and hopefully a classroom sharpener. My students are motivated to learn and participate. I couldn’t be prouder.
