The items I request will be used as incentives to encourage and motivate students work towards meeting behavior goals. Students use the CICO (check-in/check-out) behavior program or weekly behavior sheets, depending on the severity of the behavior to be modified. In both methods, students set goals and intentions for the week. Students also choose rewards or incentives they would like to receive after meeting their daily or weekly goals. The items selected for this project will be placed in the classroom store as incentives for students to choose as desired incentives to work towards.
When students are caught doing the right thing (demonstrating appropriate behavior), it increases their chances of meeting their personal goals set for the day or week. When incentives are attached to the individual goals, students are motivated and work hard to reach them. When students are motivated to learn, it increases the chances of appropriate behavioral responses, active engagement, and participation during instruction, leading to increased academic performance. As off-task and disruptive behavior decreases, special educations students have intentional access to the general curriculum. The items will help implement my behavior incentives program. The behavior incentive program and our school's PBIS program will allow students to receive the support and positive motivation needed to be successful.
