My hope is that by receiving books my students love to read they'll be encouraged to be lifelong readers. Reading is a way for students to leave behind the world they're in and explore new horizons. They expand their imagination and are encouraged to try new things, solve new problems, and grow because of the characters they read about. Many times students do not have access to books at home so having a furnished classroom library will ensure I can let students borrow books to read at home.
I am also always looking for new ways to engage students, and game based learning has saved me! Using printed board games and dice to reinforce a math skill has been a highlight in my classroom. Student retain more of what they're learning when it is engaging and fun.
