My aim is to use these books in addition to my district's prescribed mandated reading intervention pull-out programs, which are often repetitious, slow, and limited as far as the 'life' content they offer my students. Reading is a chore for the students who come to me and is often an embarrassing disconnect. My aim is to support my students as they experience the vocabulary richness, life lessons, and thought-provoking treasures they can discover in a good book. Together, each grade level and I will read and discuss one book each quarter. For some, it will be their first!
