The focus for this project is set up a learning environment that is safe, welcoming, exciting, and motivating for my students. Many of my students returning to the classroom have not been in a school building in over a year due to Covid. Some of them left the school environment not really wanting to return.
The first thing I want is for them to feel safe. Our building is not air conditioned. The air purifier will help aid in keeping the classroom air as clean as possible as we begin to get used to being back together again. The second use for the materials in this project is to expose them to engaging lessons and reading material they can relate to. The curriculum we use does not have characters that look like them. The activities suggested in the curriculum aren't always hands on. I want to decorate my classroom library with books that have characters that look like them to encourage them to want to read and be able to incorporate activities from Teachers Pay Teachers that are more hands-on and engaging. Finally, the prize box will set the tone for positive behavior. I want to motivate them to want to earn prizes for their great behavior.
