Due to the COVID safety protocols in place in our building, our middle schoolers can't rotate between classrooms as they usually would. My room is intended as a science class, but for my homeroom students it's now their Math, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies room too! Unfortunately for my students, this means they spend the whole day seated at high-top tables on high stools that no butt was ever meant to sit on for over an hour! As we adults have gained experience working from the home, office, and everywhere in between this past year, many of us have learned the importance of sustained comfort in allowing for sustained attention. No company would ever get away with making adult employees sit like this through the workday, and we should give our students at least the same flexibility and respect. Seat cushions are a small thing that would make a BIG difference for my students in a year when they're already fighting all too many uphill battles. They've shown me that they are brave, enthusiastic, and motivated learners -- now help them be comfortable!
