Owl pellets are what?!? Owls swallow their prey whole then will regurgitate what parts they have not digested. It may be easier to simply dissect one pellet myself, but SO much of what we understand in science is not only by observing or reading, but by BEING the scientist and learning through discovery. Students need to understand the flow of energy in a food chain/food web and what better way to show them then to have them actively be a part of it.
Please help to give my students the opportunity to BE the scientist, to put on a pair of gloves, get messy, and see for themselves. Students will be working in pairs to dissect the owl pellet. In order to do this we would be so appreciative of some extra supplies-tweezers and trays. This will give students the ability to carefully dissect each pellet, while keeping the bones intact so that we may later graph them.
