When I teach my students in a whole group setting, I like to give them the opportunity to sit on the carpet. This provides them with the ability to be closer to the board, collaborate with classmates, and focus on the lesson being taught. I also like to allow students to work on the carpet during independent work time to allow for a more flexible work space and comfort during the school day. Sitting at a desk all day long can be uncomfortable and by having a carpet in the classroom, students will be able to stretch, spread out, collaborate, and focus.
