The purpose of this Ðǿմ«Ã½ project is to provide self-regulating tools for the students to use in the classroom. School counselors are continuously teaching students coping skills and various strategies to positively take control and regulate their emotions. With this project, our goal is to create resources in the form of a kit that the school counselor can distribute to students that need to practice and implement strategies that will help them recognize and manage their emotions.
The sensory fidget toys, such as bead stress balls and stretchy string will help relieve stress, and anxiety. The breathing exercise cards will help the students learn different strategies to calm, reduce feelings of anxiety and help student learn skills to focus. The liquid motion and sand timers will help students monitor the length time they need to self-regulate. These materials will help students as we explore, develop, and support social-emotional wellness in the classroom. The school counselor will communicate with the teacher to monitor how the students are using the tools and strategies. Helping students manage their emotions is key for students being able to know what to do during the school day and other parts of their lives.
Having SEL tool kits available in each classroom, with the guidance and suggestions of counselor and teachers, will help young learners recognize and manage their emotions, have empathy for other students and people in their lives, maintain healthy relationships, and make wise and responsible decisions.
