I am mental health provider for special education students and this project will not only benefit the students I work with but also the students within our elementary school. These multi-sensory materials will be used to create a sensory and calming space for all of our students to use when needed.
Integrating sensory experiences in the classroom throughout the school day can play a crucial role in improving student learning and engagement. Some students benefit from additional time and space outside of the classroom to utilize sensory regulation strategies and tools specific to their needs.
The materials I am requesting will meets students' tactile, kinesthetic, proprioceptive, and visual needs. Some of the materials offer movement activities (balance beam, movement tiles), tactile (beads, sand, bots, playstix, sensory dough), and proprioceptive (calming ball, weighted lap pad).
