I value creativity in the classroom, regardless of subject area. When teaching math concepts, I make the lessons interactive by having students use individual whiteboards to show me their answers. I also have students use different colored pencils when working on a worksheet. For example, 鈥渃omplete the problem in blue if you don鈥檛 understand, orange if you somewhat understand, and green if you know it鈥. The students love this because they are able to show me what they do and don鈥檛 know, but are still encouraged to try. I will use the poster board for collaborative activities in science. A project I would like my students to complete is an "Important Scientist" project. Students will form groups of 4-6 and research a scientist. They will then use the poster board to demonstrate/share what they learned about their scientist.
Being a first year teacher, I don鈥檛 have many supplies or organizational items. An item such as an organization cart will provide me with the space to store absent work, colored paper, lined paper, etc. Students will have easy access to those resources if it is all stored in one place. Instead of taking the time to pass out papers to those that need them, the students would be able to go up to the cart and get it for themselves. Organizational items will also help me stay on track with grading and other paperwork that needs to be completed.
