Monoprints are a technique not shown to a lot of elementary aged students. Rarely are students even introduced to the fine art of printmaking. This project will introduce my young Picassos to creating works of art in abstract form as well as something more impressionistic. The students will learn how they you use black and white prints and color and even add texture to their prints. They will understand that monoprints are unique, in that they do not produce multiple prints, but only one creative print that they develop.
Since we are back in school, and are following the safety protocols, it is important for my students to each have a printing plate of his/her own to work. These plates are easy to clean and fun to paint on and blend colors and add textures on their final product.
I look forward to the students being able to look at some great artists such as Picasso and contemporary artist, Karen Lederer.
