Giving students access to books is one of the greatest ways we can promote life long readers and learners. I have chosen these text for my class based on the interests and backgrounds of my students, but also on the themes included within them that I see as ones that help foster self understanding, community, and critical thinking.
My hope is to collectively explore themes of identity, the power of emotional awareness, oppression, and liberation in full class groups. In doing so my aim is to not only connect with the world through great literature, but also with one another through conversation, activities, and debates.
