These materials will make a difference in my students' learning in more ways than one. I have a variety of students with ADHD, emotional disorders, behavioral issues, and many that have past/current experience with trauma.
The materials will benefit my students in that it provides them with alternative seating to not only meet their needs, but to also enhance their focus on learning. It is only the 4th day of school and I currently have students who struggle staying in their seats for what would seem to be short periods of time. This leads me to having them stand if they wish but even then, they seem wiggly and uncomfortable. The wobble stools would help them immensely. This will allow them to not only focus on their learning, but also release some of their jitters and anxiety, right there in their seats. The floor cushions would benefit my kiddos in that we like to have morning meetings to build relationships and work on foundational social/emotional skills needed for student growth. These floor cushions, among being an alternative seat, would also benefit my morning meeting time.
The base ten blocks would help me develop math skills for the whole school year. They are an essential piece to practically every standard needed in 3rd grade. I also students who require manipulatives in their IEP plan. This would be an important tool needed to teach them.
Due to being a first-year teacher in a Title I school, I lack many of these important tools for my classroom that I truly think would benefit my students greatly. Thank you for your time.
