This is the first time that my school is offering a foreign language class, Spanish, and my school does not provide much funding for me to create and implement an exciting, interactive, and meaningful exploration into the Spanish language and culture. First, I need the Spanish I & II teaching resources to create an effective and engaging curriculum. Second, during the pandemic, each student was provided a Chromebook because we were virtual, and now when we get back in person, I'll be able to have the students work on an online Spanish language program. However, they will need earbuds with microphones to utilize the program. In addition, I want them to feel excited and immersed in Spanish, so the posters and decorations are used to highlight the lessons learned. Finally, we will be participating in many hands-on activities to reinforce the oral and written skills needed in learning a new language, so the games, whiteboards, and stories are needed to support that.
By donating to this project, my students can truly submerge themselves in another culture, explore life outside their bubble, and one day, physically experience the interactions with Spanish-speaking communities. The high interest of about 150 Hmong students in wanting to take this elective course clearly demonstrates their strong desire and curiosity about the world around them which I am honored and grateful to pass along my love and experiences with the Spanish language and cultures.
