One of the most important pieces of using the workshop model to teach reading is the independent reading time. Students choose a book that is right for them, find a comfy spot, and spend time in their books practicing the strategies that they have learned.
When my students search our classroom library, I want them to see themselves in the books they choose. When students see characters that look like them or read stories that they can relate to, it elevates their learning. It helps them understand how they might fit into their world.
I am asking for diverse books that my students can read and love. Your donation will go toward a selection of diverse books.
