Students learn best in a play based environment. Because most of my students are below grade level in both reading and math due to virtual learning last year, I want to be able to create meaningful and fun math and literacy centers that will support the students learning in the classroom, foster cooperation among the students, and keep them engaged in centers as I work with small groups. These items will give my students the chance to practice and reinforce the skills we are learning during whole group instruction, building phonemic awareness, sight word recognition, phonics and reading skills, and number sense. If we were to return to virtual learning, many of these items could be used in my online teaching to help keep students focused and participating.
