My students and I live in a world that has so much to offer beyond our city limits. Our population lacks cultural diversity and struggles with 'White Privilege'. I would like to expose my students to characters and events that they might not encounter on a daily basis. I plan on reading 1 picture book each day to help me achieve my objective. Picture books are an excellent tool for me to help my students to see and understand others from around the world. I want to read "The Proudest Blue" by Ibtihaj Muhammad so my students can understand why they may see a woman wearing a hijab. I want to read "Adrien Simcox does NOT have a horse" by Marcy Campbell so my students may have some empathy towards students that are not able to have all of the things that they want.
