Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to be comfortable while they learn. Studies have shown that flexible seating increases student engagement, and can contribute to an increase in test scores. By providing students with seating that always them to wobble, bounce, etc. you are providing them with an increase in movement which increases oxygen to the brain, boosts metabolism, and builds core strength. Students deserve to be in a seat that is not only comfortable but helps their learning.
Balance balls, pillows, and floor seats provide students with more comfort than a school chair.
Flexible seating also increases community within the classroom. In life you are almost always given the choice of where you want to sit. Why is that not the case in schools? Flexible seating reflects the real world; by giving students the choice to sit where they want.
We want students to take ownership in the learning. Let's give them that chance by giving them the choice to sit where they want so they can feel comfortable, be safe, be healthy, and learn.
