All of the students at my school come to music for one 30-minute class a week. One of my students' favorite learning activities is using the barred Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels). These instruments give my kids the chance to accompany their singing, play melodies, and begin creating their own pieces!
The challenge is, we do not have enough instruments for every student to play, and end up taking turns, leaving students with little time to play. With only 30 minutes, and classes as large as thirty children, students have a very limited time to get to know the instruments and experiment. Our biggest need is bass xylophones and eventually, bass bars.
