I currently teach Kindergarten at a very low-income school located in New York City, with the majority of the students receiving free lunch. A large amount of my students have to live with their relatives because they are new immigrants, and their parents have to find work outside of the city in order to be able to financially take care of their families. For most of the students in my class, this is their first experience with coming to a place called school, so I make it a priority to make their experience as meaningful and as memorable as possible.
