Writing without a reason can feel pointless to a middle school student. This project will have us writing to soldiers and creating care packages to make these soldiers feel valued.
By having an authentic audience, our students will feel motivated to be the best writer they can be. They will be more willing to subject their writing to multiple revisions and make sure they are creating excellent letters and really refine this skill.
This project will also build a sense of community, because we've seen that our students take a lot of pride in helping other and making sure others feel valued. And we know the solders will love their thoughtful care packages with gifts made from the paracord.
