The theme of my classroom this year is "Growing Together". My mission is to help my students improve their reading comprehension, and aim to create a cozy and comforting atmosphere for them to grow academically, socially, and emotionally together. In order to renew a love for reading in my students, I need to renew the classroom library. Currently, the library consists of older books, both fiction and nonfiction, and my students do not take a liking to them. It is a struggle to get them to read and make connections with these books because they do not appeal to their interests. If I can refresh our classroom library with books that interest my students, I am sure they will want to read and explore them. Additionally, we moved into a new building this year and the classrooms are a bit tighter. The book-stands will house the new books without taking up too much space. Considering the disparate experiences of my students, one of my goals is to always make them feel safe, valued and respected in my classroom. In an effort to foster social-emotional learning in my classroom, the bean bag chair will be a great addition to the "Peace Corner" in the classroom. Finally, these materials will aid my students in literacy and help me continue to create a positive learning environment for them to grow together.
