Flexible seating during the center time will allow the students a chance to get comfortable and enjoy a good book at the reading center. I am hoping this becomes a habit that they will bring home with them. The last year and a half has not afforded us the chance to feel comfortable at school and that's all I really want for these kiddos. If they want to go to the math center, they will be greeted by puzzles, legos, and many other mathematical activities. In the art center, they will be able to work on those fine motor skills and use Playdoh to strengthen those fine motor muscles.
Students need to move around and be comfortable making learning choices. It's time to help these 2nd graders develop their independence and give them learning choices! I have seen how much more engaged students are when they have a say in their learning. I already have some flexible seating options, but what I don't have is a wonderful Reading Corner. I can't wait to see them cozying up with a great book!
