Students are often told what to do and how to do it. We, as adults, often get caught up in the 'being right' and miss the importance of the journey to get there. While in school we are not only taught academics, but also how to be a friend, take care of ourselves, our belongs, and the environment around us. These skills often get over looked in the busy day to day activities.
Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed- Maria Montessori.
I like to keep this quote in focus each year as I plan my classroom management on building social skills, independence, and problem solving skills. The materials in this project will be used to set up the classroom is such a way that the students will know where any material they need is, how and when to get them, leading to developing independence and skills to solve problems successfully. The students will also gain a sense of home and belonging with the comforting additions of a carpet which allows them space to spread out and work. Learning how to organize, plan, and problem solve are life-long skills that the students carry with them as they continue through school and move through adulthood's successes!
