My students have a tendency to have big emotions, especially when they become overwhelmed and are unable to regulate their emotions. They
need an area where they can go when they become overstimulated or overwhelmed in the classroom. By learning how to regulate their emotions my students can create more positive social interactions with their peers in the classroom.
One of the ways that we can support students with special needs is by creating a safe and comforting environment where they are able to work through their difficulties. By providing a sensory area in the classroom, my students will have exposure to an area where they can interact with soothing lights, sensory fidgets to help them focus and a light table in which they can explore different concepts in fun and playful ways. The gentle glow of the light panel will draw the students to interact with different materials and hopefully stretch their attention spans.
