To begin, each student will receive one "desk pet" and one clear storage bin. A desk pet is considered to be one of the the mini animal erasers. From there, students will be able to earn accessories for their pets, such as food. In order to earn an accessory, students will need to acquire 10 points. Students can earn a point for a variety of reasons. Examples include, random acts of kindness, completing assignments, and following directions. Students also have the opportunity to earn another pet by collecting 20 points. At the end of the school year, students will be allowed to take earned pets and accessories home with them. Bins will be reused for the following school year.
This behavior system highlights positive reinforcement and gives students the opportunity to be in control of their behavior choices. These erasers provide a fun way for students to be self-reflective and engaged in their behavior. In addition to earning new accessories, students will have time each week to "check-in" on their desk pet. I am excited to see the sense of responsibility that will grow in my students with this behavior system.
