Students have difficulty learning if their basic needs aren't met. They can't take risks with their learning and be their best selves if they are feeling distracted, unsafe, anxious, hungry, and disconnected.
I want my students to feel a strong sense of comfort and belonging when they step into our classroom. They should be able to leave their stress from the outside world at the door. They should feel at ease when sharing ideas, asking for help, and being in community with their classmates. Easy access to snacks and tea, cleaning supplies, and games can help them engage in meaningful learning.
