The bottomline is that I want my students to have a positive relationship with reading! Not just seen as another thing to do for homework, or simply a method to get points. I want to see my students excited for independent reading time and glued to their books! In order for that to happen, I need books that are relevant to students. All these books are specifically requested by students as books they are interested in and hope to see in our library.
Access to books such as these, will provide a chance for my students to connect to characters and feel understood through the stories of others. Reading broadens horizons and opens up minds to the world around us. The past year, my students have been reading through online programs. Since they don't have access to the school library or Chromebooks at home, these books will provide them the opportunity to foster their love of reading at home as well.
