Louis Pasteur said, "Chance favors the prepared mind." These supplies will aid our band students by allowing them to prepare their minds and rehearsals through organization. Currently they have a paper pocket folder that holds all of their materials. In band, this includes all of their music, charts, letters home, calendars and learning material. Can you imagine a junior high student keeping this all together and not losing something?
Our goal is to implement an organized binder system that will give students clearly defined areas for specific material, fostering life-time organizational skills for life-time success. Rather than having all materials shoved in a pocket folder, they will be held securely in the binder. This will minimize lost time from shuffling and searching, and lost papers. Our dividers will be organized by need: Information- for calendars, objective sheets and letters home; Resources- for aids to refer back to when needed; Theory- for all music theory learning supplements; Rhythm- for quick access to rhythm studies; Scales- for tetrachords and scales sheets; Instrument Specific- for drills that are specific to each section of the band; Warm-up- for full band daily drills; and, Music- for the actual music that we will perform. The pencil pouches will hold not only pencils and hi-lighters used for marking music, but also music supplies such as reeds, cork grease and valve oil to keep the student from having to get up during rehearsal to retrieve those items. Easy access will allow more time for bell to bell instruction and more time that the students are actually playing their instruments.
Not all of our students are able to obtain supplies due to financial hardship. Your donation will provide the opportunity for achievement and equity to all children in our program and is much appreciated.
