My students are already great engineers. They love to collaborate and build every single class period. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our VEX robotics parts will not be available until November (at the earliest). My students are on fire for engineering - and that is a flame that I do not want to see go out because of something beyond their control.
A 3D printer in our classroom will bring life to my students' designs. It will also give us the ability to print replacement parts, should we need additional robotics pieces in the future.
I am teaching the next generation of thinkers, tinkerers, and problem solvers. I know that they are up to any challenge I place in front of them, all they need are the supplies to bring their solutions to life.
