My kids are hungry for knowledge but many lack confidence due to their large learning gaps. I plan on using the materials I'm requesting as part of the intensive intervention time most of my students need and in small groups for the kids that are a little closer to being on level.
I chose these particular materials because my students are visual, hands-on learners. So many are not yet reading simple words and I know it greatly impacts their confidence and I see the anxiety on their faces everyday. I've been working on building phonological awareness everyday, so now I need to move on and start helping them correlate those sounds to letters to form words, and the word flip charts are great visuals.
For that reason, I also chose the math key and lock set that correlates numbers to the word form. 2nd grade math begins with place value and number forms. One of the lessons involves being able to write numbers in their word forms, and because my kids cannot read yet, they feel lost. I feel the key and lock set will help them recognize and eventually read those number words.
Lastly, I have some fantastic ESL students that will greatly benefit from English/Spanish books. I want them to know that our little classroom library is for them too. All are welcome.
I can't thank you enough for your consideration. It means the world to me that these kids get the best I can offer them. My paycheck only goes so far, so I really thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
