Working within a self-contained program, I work with students who occasionally experience emotional and behavioral breakdowns throughout their day. When this happens it is our goal to help them learn to self-soothe, redirect, and calm to return to their educational activities.
Open communication is the key to safety and success within the classroom.
We are requesting two-way radios so that students and staff can communicate their needs when communication breakdowns occur. This is especially important when the staff and students are not together such as when in transitions, resource, playground, lunch. We use the two-way radios to have the students call a preferred staff member to assist with de-escalation as well as to celebrate and praise success within the classroom. Without the radios, if a student demonstrates a communication breakdown and assistance is needed it can be difficult to get the support the child needs.
Please consider supporting our classroom to make our classroom safe and supportive for our students. Thank you!
