After many years behind the curve, exacerbated by over a year of distance learning, many of my students have not yet mastered the calculation skills that form the basis of the high school math curriculum.
Using calculators in class provides some suport for students, allowing them to feel more comfortable with the new algebra concepts while they continue to practice and improve their calculation skills. Providing a calculator for all students to use during class evens the playing field for the more disadvantaged students that have not purchased or cannot purchase their own.
