I serve an elementary school in a very diverse district. My students have various different needs ranging from adversity, trauma and need of emotional regulation. My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
The purpose of this project is for students to feel safe, cared for, and to encourage expression of feelings through play. The use of the selected toys will help students facilitate cognitive, emotional, and social development. My students will benefit from these resources as reading novels improves empathy and understanding of social cues, resulting in a higher Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Reading builds analytical skills. Also, with the selected toys it will allow my students to engage in play and art therapy will discussing difficult topics.
