In classrooms, small groups or individually. I will have students that are struggling with self-regulation create a toolbox that we will name Calm Down Box with reminder notes of different activities they can use to calm down. In addition to the reminder notes, students will add some sensory tools that will help them practice self-regulating. During our sessions, we practice the use of the tools in the Calm Down box. For follow-up, students report back what helped and what needs to be modified to help them feel better.
Having a Calm Down Box will allow students to self-regulate with some support and whenever they need it. It will build up their confidence and allow them to focus on their academic learning.
