A hand chime ensemble would bring unique benefits to our students. First, playing a hand chime doesn’t require long hours of practice to make the right pitch and tone. Students simply hold the instrument and snap their wrists to play. Some of our students who are physically or verbally limited can participate in creating harmonized music without being left out. It would boost our students’ auditory, kinetic, visual, and communication skills as they listen to their chime and the sounds played by their peers while waiting for their turn to play. Also, the peaceful and relaxing sound from the chimes helps reduce anxiety and minimizes stress, which affects their behavior.
The final goal of this project is to give my students the opportunity to serve local communities like nursing homes or shelters with beautiful music, which would help them become fully incorporated members of our society.
